Declared by
the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, each
year from October 4 to October 10 will be held the
“World Space Week”
(WSW), the largest annual public space event on Earth.
These dates commemorate two events:
-
October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made
Earth satellite,
Sputnik,
thus opening the way for space exploration, and
-
October 10, 1967: The signing of the
Outer Space
Treaty.
As World Space Week 2007 was the
50th anniversary of the space age, our Club has organized two events:
-
Under the patronage of our
Club, the teachers of the Primary
School of Morens (Canton Fribourg, Switzerland) treated with
approximately 60 pupils of the 4. to 6. Primary classes the
space-activities. The main objective was to interest this young
people in technology and science in general. They worked in
groups on different interesting topics and presented then the
results on October 6th to the public at the Swiss Air
Force Museum „Clin d' Ailes“ in Payerne.
The “Morens World Space Week
Program” started in September and ended on October 6th,
in accordance with the school program.
The highlight of the “Morens
World Space Week” was the attendance of Swiss Astronaut and Club
Member Claude Nicollier, who talked with the pupils about his
space adventures.
The pupils did an impressive job. See the
picture galleries on the next pages to get an impression about their
"World Space Work".
-
From October 4 to October
10, our Club Operators were on the air for the World of the Radio
Amateurs with the special call «HB 9 SPACE».
For details see the page "WSW on the Air".
