The "Cugy Space Day" took place
on Saturday, October 10, in the "Claude Nicollier Space" of the
Swiss Air Force Museum "Clin d'Ailes" in Payerne.
The children had prepared information stands on the following topics :
-
"Le Petit Prince" (Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This novel was the
basis for all other subjects. A class has dealt with this tale,
making drawings, presentations and posters.
-
A second class has established the link between the story of "Little
Prince" and the conquest of the airspace and the universe, under the
title "These crazy flying men". They presented the ideas and bets of
the "dreamers" such as Icarus, Leonardo da Vinci and his flying machines, Jules Verne and his fantastic gear, the Montgolfier
brothers, Auguste and Bertrand Piccard with their "balloons", the
Wright brothers; Yves Rossi, our "jet-powered bird man" and our
astronaut and club member Claude Nicollier.
Astronaut Claude Nicollier studied with great interest the exhibits
and listened to all the presentations and to the enthusiastic crowd of
children. One can already anticipate that the time reserved for the "Cugy
Space Lesson" with Claude, scheduled for November 5th or 9th, will not
be enough ...
Isabelle Chassot, State Councilor and Director of the Department of
Education, Culture and Sport of the Canton of Freiburg, has honored
us with her visit. She was delighted by the achievements of the children
and their teachers and by the efforts of our club, to open for school
children very early doors to science, technology, research and amateur
radio.
The highlight of "Cugy Space Day" was undoubtedly the shortwave
QSO with OM Philip, A65BI in the UAE. The students have prepared very
specific questions and our friend Philip answered them with humor and in
a very complete and understandable manner. Thanks to good
propagation conditions and the quality of the connection between the
Shack and the museum, the QSO was excellent and held in suspense
children and visitors during the 25 minutes duration.

As part of our event "World Space Week on the Air", our club has
been QRV on the amateur radio bands with the special call sign HB9SPACE,
from October 4 to 10. The 1500 QSO , 2500 consultations of HB9SPACE
in QRZ.com and 1149 visits to our website during this week prove that
the interest in our event is still intact. Our QSL policies can be
